Mile of Music - Mile 5
Come visit and feed your inner musician!
Lori and I are excited for this year’s rendition of Appleton’s Mile of Music Festival! We missed this event last year since it occurred prior to us purchasing the Franklin Street Inn Bed and Breakfast and moving here. Beginning August 3-6, 2017, the FREE (yes free!) 4-day festival will kick off its 5th year of providing original, hand-crafted artistry to the community. The Mile of Music, so named for the mile of hospitable venues, coffee shops, pubs, and eateries that host the live performances, is predominantly an indoor event held at 70-plus venues along Downtown Appleton’s College Avenue - about 0.5 miles from the Franklin Street Inn.
The 2017 Festival, co-founded by Appleton marketing executive Dave Williams and Appleton-based national recording artist Cory Chisel, will provide over 900 live music performances and 75 interactive activities making it one of the nation’s largest free music events. The primary focus of the festival is to be an economic driver for the creative community and a brand bolster for Appleton, WI. It also focuses on giving performers a platform and space in which they can exchange ideas with other artists from around the country. About half of the artists at Mile 5 are expected to be Wisconsin artists, though the “First Fifty” performers alone hail from 20 states and two other countries – France and Canada.
As previously mentioned you can be a part of the festival by participating in one of the 75 interactive activities that will be coordinated by The Lawrence University’s Music Education Team. You will also be able to support the festival by purchasing merchandise in the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. All proceeds will be donated to “The Mile of Music Education Fund” that financially supports music education programs in the Appleton public school system and to “Creative Downtown Appleton Inc.”
Enjoy the Downtown Trolley while you’re here!
Although most of the Mile of Music venues are reached by walking up and down College Avenue, the Appleton Trolley is in operation again this summer as well. The free trolley makes a complete loop of Downtown and the Riverfront every 30 minutes including several scheduled stops along its “track.” The Trolley departs from the Transit Center (next to the Appleton Public Library) at 15 and 45 minutes past each hour during its hours of operation. Look for the black, green and red trolley stop signs for additional stops!
Running Thursday - Saturday, it's the perfect way to get around Downtown Appleton and to our beautiful Riverfront. A ride on the trolley makes every event even more special!
The 2017 Trolley Brochure is available to download now. l!
The trolley is available June 1 -Sept. 30, 2017.
Thursdays & Fridays 5-11pm
If you enjoy riding the trolley and would like to support it, please make a donation in the box on the trolley.
