The Appleton and Fox Cities have several dairy related businesses. Besides the cheese shops and cheese-making tours, local restaurants provide many dairy related entrees and desserts. Below is a sampling of some of our local favorites.
Simon’s Specialty Cheese, a Little Chute Retail store, is the place to go to browse 100 varieties of cheese. Steeped in the history and tradition of Wisconsin cheese making, Trega Foods, parent company of Simon's, churns out some of the best feta, mozzarella and provolone in the state.
Lamers is a haven for the tourist interested in Wisconsin’s dairy tradition. The Lamers Dairy retail store in Appleton specializes in providing guests with the highest quality Wisconsin dairy products and specialty foods.
The restaurant serves traditional farm-to-table choices from fresh salads and sandwiches to steaks, pasta and seafood. As the oldest continuously running microbrewery in the state, Stone Arch keeps ten original beers on tap. Call ahead for an appointment to tour the brewery.
Union Star Cheese Factory offers tours of their facility every morning except Sundays. The factory tour includes pit stops at pivotal steps in the cheese making process along with a cheese tasting at the end. Union Star also has an in-house retail store where visitors can purchase the cheese tasted on the tour.
Dinner at a supper club is in order for an authentic Wisconsin experience! Expect simple, classic American homemade style cuisine including salads with homemade dressings. The Appleton area boasts several supper clubs including Mark's Eastside, Dick & Joan's, and Simpson’s Red Ox Club.
Located in the heart of Appleton and the Fox Cities, the Franklin Street Inn Bed and Breakfast is minutes from many Dairy related shops and food places. Or pick up some cheese curds and your favorite beverages and relax for a night or two. Our wrap around porch and backyard gardens are great places to get away and just chill for a spell.
